Planning for the future goes hand-in-hand with not procrastinating.
A year ago Jeremy and I sat down and talked about where we want to be in 5 years, and what we needed to do to get there. Some people know from a young age what they want and how to get it. We didn’t. Well, we knew what we wanted, but we couldn’t see a way to make it happen.
A year ago we started figuring out how we’d make it happen, and in the last year we’ve been able to solidify our action plan.
A lot of our adventures revolve around getting outside and exploring. Our five year plan expands on that.
Our Five Year Goals
Our end goal is to buy land, build a house, and start a hobby farm, homestead, whatever you want to call it. It will be a very different lifestyle from our current one.
That will be an adventure in itself, but along the way we’ll experience a lot more adventures.
Our Three Year Goals
A more short-term goal is to build our online businesses so that Jeremy can quit his desk job that has him working way too many hours away from us.
Three years from now we should have enough saved up that he can quit his job and we can buy an airstream trailer and hit the road. Being self-employed will allow us to live wherever we want, which is not a luxury we currently have.
On our road trip we’ll decide where we want to live (we have it narrowed down to a couple locations) and we want to visit all the national parks with the kiddos. Maybe we find our land at the beginning of the trip, maybe we don’t.
Once we buy our land, we’ll start building our dream log cabin. We figure we’ll spend a year or so on the road, then we settle down and start our homesteading adventure.
Raising animals and planting a garden will be a new adventure. Living in a more northern climate will allow us to have more satisfying winter adventures like skiing and snow shoeing.
Preparing for Changes
We’re preparing now for the more active lifestyle we’ll be leading by being more intentional with our activities. We’re making sure we have appropriate cold weather gear so it’s more enjoyable to spend time outside in the winter. We’re also experimenting with gardening and raising chickens.
What are you doing to be prepared for your goals?
